Mink & Trout

 

ATTIK Design was commissioned to re-invent a heritage space, previously Birds Cafe, in Bree Street Cape Town.

The brief was to transform the space into an original yet unpretentious bistro and wine bar with a relaxed and comfortable feel, as well as an edge of sophistication.

Statement pieces needed to add flair to the space with materials such as exposed heritage brickwork, velvet fabric, porcelain herringbone tile and raw and sprayed steel, bringing in elements of texture.

The custom made chandelier above the bar counter and the sprayed brass and copper storage unit are the lead elements of the restaurant. The colour scheme was inspired by the name, and concept behind Mink & Trout. We wanted to symbolise land and water through colour and texture. The soft fabrics, luxurious blue-grey tones and mirror surfaces symbolise water, while the olive greens, gold, leathery fabrics and raw textures are symbolic of the earth.
